SB 1150, the bill that would ban out-of-state signature gathering for citizen initiatives in Idaho, is dead for this legislative session.

More than any other bill (aside from the HJR 4 amendment proposal) this session, SB 1150 is clearly an attack by the legislature specifically to derail our medical marijuana initiative.
At this point, we’re just waiting for one of you senators to propose a bill that bans all initiative petitions from using the letter “M.”
SB 1150 creates an absurd situation where an Idaho voter out-of-state couldn’t sign an initiative, but he or she could vote on it with an absentee ballot.
It is patently absurd to mandate that an Idahoan be located in the state to sign a petition when we allow that Idahoan to be located out-of-state when voting on that petition with an absentee ballot.
The bill increases the signature gathering requirement for initiative petitions, including the Idaho Medical Marijuana Act that has already been collecting signatures.
